The National Commemoration Ceremony organized by the SANASA Federation to mark the 104th International Cooperative Day was held with pride on 04.07.2026 at 9.00 a.m. at the National Museum Auditorium, Colombo.
A large number of people, including officials of the SANASA General Union, SANASA representatives, experts in the cooperative sector, and representatives of public and private institutions, participated in this program, which was held under the international theme of “Cooperatives for a Peaceful World”.
The conference featured scholarly lectures and discussions under the themes of “The Role of the Cooperative Movement for Peace” and “The Role of Modern Cooperatives and Leadership”, and drew broad attention to the importance of the cooperative movement for social cohesion, economic empowerment and sustainable development.
Lectures by Dr. L.B. Dassanayake, Honorary Chairman of the SANASA Federation – Pohosathugoda Sanasa Honorary Chairman Sisira Naotunna, delivered insightful lectures on how the cooperative movement, based on equality, cooperation and community empowerment, can be used as a powerful tool to build a peaceful and sustainable society in the face of the economic and social challenges facing the world today.
This national program to commemorate the International Day of Cooperatives reiterated the importance of further socializing the values of the cooperative movement, strengthening peace and coexistence, and building cooperative leadership that is in line with modern social needs.
