Three-Day Training Workshop Successfully Held on Utilizing ‘Coop RUPEES’ Standards for Supervising Primary SANASA Societies and Secondary Unions

A three-day training workshop aimed at raising awareness on implementing Coop RUPEES supervisory standards to ensure the continuous, robust, and effective operation of Primary SANASA Societies and Secondary Unions was successfully held from January 19th to 21st, 2026. The program took place at the SANASA Federation Auditorium, located at No. 45/90, Nawala Road, Narahenpita.

Organized jointly by the Association of Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU) and the SANASA Federation, the workshop featured expert contributions from Mr. Ranjith Hettiarchchi, Chief Technical Advisor to the ACCU, along with selected managers from the SANASA Federation and various Primary SANASA Societies and Secondary Unions.

The sessions, which ran daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, involved detailed discussions on strategic planning, proper supervision methodologies, and the practical application of Coop RUPEES standards to maintain the strength and sustainability of a SANASA society.

Participants included representatives with at least three years of field-level supervision experience, an accounting background, and basic computer literacy. The training focused on providing these delegates with hands-on knowledge of how to integrate Coop RUPEES standards into the daily operations of SANASA societies and unions.

The workshop highlighted that a formal supervisory framework is essential for the sustainable existence of SANASA societies, which differ constitutionally and operationally from standard banks and microfinance institutions. It was emphasized that the Coop RUPEESS standards serve as specialized performance tools perfectly aligned with the unique goals and philosophy of cooperative enterprises.
